Myths about Instakey®
MYTH #1:
InstaKey® reloads the original cylinder pinning after all the re-keys have been used.
BUSTED:
InstaKey® utilizes the next available cylinder pinning configuration available in the system. InstaKey® Program Developers generate systems with over 33% more available codes than are required just for this purpose.
MYTH #2:
Old keys still work after a re-key has been conducted.
BUSTED:
In 1993, InstaKey® found that any lock with more than 40,000 key turns (200-400 times per day) is susceptible to wearing of pins and keyway. This allowed for instances where the original keys would continue to function after a re-key. In 1994, InstaKey® reduced the amount of available re-keys in a cylinder to answer this concern. InstaKey® decided not to maximize the amount of removable pins in each chamber, and found that the life of core can be extended. Since 1994, InstaKey® has not seen this myth re-surface.
MYTH #3:
InstaKey® cylinders are more vulnerable and easier to pick than standard lock cylinders.
BUSTED:
In reality, locksmiths pick locks to get you in and criminals break windows. InstaKey® has spent many years adding levels of security to cylinders. InstaKey® utilizes glued pin stacks, spooled top pins, and tapered drivers that have improved key pick-ability. These glued pin stacks, spooled top pins, and tapered drivers actually make InstaKey® cylinders more difficult to pick.
MYTH #4:
Computerized InstaKey® records are owned by the distributor or InstaKey.
BUSTED:
InstaKey® has spent many years perfecting the records management process for key control. The computerized InstaKey® records are owned by the END USER (or customers). At any time, if a customer feels that they would like to transition their records management service or supplier, these records transition with you.
MYTH #5:
With all of the InstaKeying involved, very large system designs are impossible.
BUSTED:
InstaKey® has developed families of keyways to handle any size system. InstaKey® Program Developers have yet to find a system design that could not be matched or improved. InstaKey's® goal is to improve key control and simplify key management.
MYTH #6:
InstaKey® cylinders break down more than standard lines in extreme weather conditions.
BUSTED:
InstaKey® cylinders are manufactured from the same materials as standard line manufacturers. InstaKey® cylinders have been tested in all extreme environments (harsh winters to hot and humid summer months) throughout the United States with little or no failures.
